Brief Introduction

Professor Elisabeth Paice is acting Director of Medical and Dental Education at NHS London. This role involves commissioning postgraduate training for over 10,000 doctors and dentists. She was born in Washington DC, brought up in Canada, and studied medicine first at Trinity College Dublin and later at Westminster Medical School. She was Consultant Rheumatologist at Whittington Hospital, where she also was Clinical Tutor. From 1995 –2001 she was Dean Director of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education for North Thames. She was the overseas expert on the Australian Medical Council team accrediting the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2004. She was the originator of the Hospital at Night concept; developed the Point of View Surveys; chaired PMETB working parties on Generic Standards and the National Trainee Survey and has published on identifying doctors in difficulty; workplace bullying; women in medicine and other aspects of medical careers and. postgraduate medical training. From 2006 to 2008 she was Chair of the Conference of Postgraduate Medical Deans of the UK. She has published 79 peer reviewed papers and 16 chapters in books.
