Brief Introduction

Amir K Jaffer, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Division Chief of Hospital Medicine, in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Jaffer received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1994. His postgraduate training includes an internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and practices both Hospital and Perioperative Medicine. He was selected as one of the Best Doctors in America each year over the last 4-years by Best Doctors an independent organization that uses exhaustive, annual surveys of the medical profession.

Whilst he was at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland , Ohio, he was awarded the Scholarship in Teaching Award in 2006 and again in 2007 through a competitive external peer review process.

He is currently the Associate editor of the book Hospital Medicine Secrets. He also served as one of the authors of much cited 8th American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-based Guidelines in Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Therapy. He has published extensively and speaks nationally within his areas of interest and expertise, which include: Treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism, anticoagulant therapy, specifically perioperative management and medical consultation. He is also the Co-director of a Premier CME event that he hosts in Miami every year on the topic of Perioperative Medicine: Improving Patient Safety, Quality and Outcomes. He is currently a board member of the Anticoagulation Forum and the Society of Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI). He is also an active member of several professional organizations including American College of Physicians (ACP), Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM), the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) and the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).
